Astrology has been a major part of my life for 50 years! In 1968 I graduated from college in Boston and drove ‘cross country to California “with flowers in my hair”. The car broke down in Michigan but through kismet, I hitchhiked the rest of the way, arriving safely, and settled into life in Berkeley, just as “the Hippie Revolution” of 1968-69 exploded. Woodstock rocked upper New York State with peace, love and music, The Chicago 7 disrupted the Democratic Convention, anti-Vietnam War protests erupted as young men burned their draft cards while the young women burned their bras. The Rolling Stones presided over death and mayhem at Altamont, thanks to the drunken Hell’s Angels being hired as security. It was an amazing time, the late 60’s! And Berkeley, California was the place to be!
“Hippiedom” was in full swing in Berkeley when I discovered the Shambala Bookstore on Telegraph Avenue, a small metaphysical bookstore where I spent hours exploring astrology, numerology, palmistry and hand-writing, tarot, runes, crystal healing, and Alice Bailey’s Ascended Masters. I was drawn inexorably to Astrology above all the rest! I was amazed how planets in transit aspecting my natal chart affected me, but it was more than 25 years of study before I began to give professional readings. My website first went up in 1997 and I became a certified Astrocartographer in 2000. I continue to study and practice Astrology and Astrocartography and from time to time I offer Astrology classes, when there is enough local interest.
In 1991 I caught a workshop in Bali with Barbara Marciniac, Barbara Marx Hubbard, Barbara Hand Clow (“The Three Barbaras”), plus Deepok Chopra. After those magical three weeks, I stayed in Ubud in a bamboo house amid rice patties and dreamed alot. As I wrote down my dreams, I fell into writing and have never left my love of writing.
1992 found me in Brazil for Earth Summit Rio, the first international gathering of world leaders and hundreds of NGOs doing the People’s work. Those 2 weeks activated me more deeply and I wrote ~1,000 word article about the spiritual side of the International Gathering for “Light of Consciousness” Magazine and a ~1500 word article about the experience of being at Earth Summit Rio in ’92 for “Planetary Citizen” Magazine, both of which were published upon my return.
I lived, worked, and raised my daughter in Boulder, Colorado for ~30 years, but I didn’t find an outlet for further writings until I moved into a spiritual mountain retreat town called Crestone. Here I found a local monthly newspaper of surprising quality and began writing occasionally on metaphysical topics, some of which I have included on this site menu under Writings.
During those Crestone years I worked for a Rug Maven and her rug business, but 4 years later she died. As her only employee, I spent another year wrapping up her business, transporting her rug inventory to rug mentors on the East Coast who had a showroom in Delaware, and releasing her home to the mortgage company. But being so deeply involved in Carolyn’s death made me want to leave Colorado for awhile. I ended up driving down to San Cristobal in Chiapas, Mexico where I ran a little bookshop-cafe for several years after attending the Dec 21st Winter Solstice Celebrations at the Mayan Ceremonial Center of Chichen Itza.
When the Bookstore sold in 2016, I began to make my way homeward (a harrowing drive!) to Puerto Vallarta, where my girlfriend lived. I found a nice casita and gated yard in Nayarit and began to write in earnest. I had a covered back terrace looking out upon bougainvillea bushes in full bloom along the wall, lush bananas and palms bending in the background. I wrote the first 125 pages of a book that has been gestating for a decade. But the heat got too intense for me and my brain was melting… When I was offered a place to stay in Berkeley near my daughter, I packed up my car and continued my journey north to the border and US safety beyond.
Once back in the States, I spent a year between my daughter in Berkeley, and looking for affordable housing in Arizona or New Mexico. Finally I returned to Crestone where I gardened for a couple of summers but left around New Years 2020 when my housing became inhospitable and the below zero cold got into my left leg, crippling me with sciatica. Amid snow and ice I fled south to a Santa Fe where I could rent a spare bedroom from a compatible friend.
Astrological Monthly Forecast
For the last few years I have been writing an Astrology column for the small Colorado mountain town’s monthly newspaper, The Crestone Eagle. I began the column with February 2018 and all articles since then can be found on this website.
Come back around the first of each month to read my most recent post, an 800+ word Astrology Forecast called Starr Sightings. I explain what the planets will be doing that month and how they are likely to impact us. It’s an over-view report rather than a horoscope-by-sign report, which are numerous elsewhere on the web.
If you like the Monthly Astrology Forecast, Starr Sightings, it can be made available to other small town newspapers or newsletters by the middle of the preceding month for a modest fee. Contact Starr to inquire further.
