All 5 outer planets – Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, PLUS Asteroid Chiron – are retrograde this month and by September 27th, Mercury will join them for its final retrograde season of the year as well. That’s A LOT of retrograde energy! This means we can expect inevitable slowdowns, even reversals. But it’s an excellent time to review your plans, re-think your strategies, and re-imagine your path, although forward progress is not especially supported at this time. Wrap up whatever needs completion so NEXT month, after 4 retrograde planets turn direct mid-October, you can better activate new forward-looking plans.
Air Signs
September begins with generally fortuitous energies (see the September 3rd chart with 2 blue Grand Trines, 2 Kites and a Mystic Rectangle) bringing in new possibilities amid fierce contentions (the many red squares, sesquisquares, semisquares and oppositions). Mercury trines Saturn (exact on September 5th) and then trines Jupiter (exact on the 21st), making this month an excellent one for writers and public speakers to express themselves and edit their work with relative facility. Venus-trine-Jupiter, exact on the 7th, brings social ease, good fortune, and grace, while the North Node remains in chatty Gemini during the rest of 2021. All these planets in AIR SIGNS are very mentally stimulating, enabling lively conversations and communications.
However, such a heavy dose of AIR could also bring a lot of chatter and noise to the airways and streaming channels of the internet, as well as in our personal lives. Some will find the courage to stand up and expound their beliefs (whether based on fact OR conspiracy theories), but with Mercury and Venus in Libra at the beginning of the month, joined by the Sun on the 23rd, the desire for justice and balance grows stronger. Meanwhile, Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius seek better conditions for humanity, and since Libra and Aquarius are trine by sign, they act harmoniously together, tipping the scales temporarily towards bipartisanship and social upliftment. Perhaps Congress can come together to pass new legislature, either this month or next!
New Moon
On the day of the New Moon, September 6th, the lunation trines Uranus, bringing unpredictable elements to the fore, especially in relationships as Venus also squares Pluto during the darkened Moon phase. Change is occurring, and you may be forced to relinquish some power to others in order to avoid conflict. At the same time, Venus is trine Jupiter at the New Moon, bringing good luck and happiness (or laziness and privilege), while Mars opposes Neptune, which can be energetically somewhat debilitating. There is also a wide opposition from the Sun to Neptune, sparking uncertainty and confusion, so take it easy for a few days. Mercury opposes Chiron as well, either clarifying personal health issues or raising new concerns. Focusing on spiritual practices or spending time in nature can help balance tensions.
Mid-Month
Venus has been happy in Libra since mid-August, but on September 10th, she enters Scorpio, an intensely emotional sign ruled by her antipole, Mars (and Pluto), possibly bringing up unhappy memories, depressed feelings, or overwhelm. A week later, on the 15th, Mars enters Libra, ruled by Venus, making both planets (and women and men too) discontent and rather disagreeable in signs contrary to their natures during the second half of September. Midmonth, Venus squares Saturn, who may squelch her desires and drain her pocketbook, furthering Venus’ somewhat dour disposition, while Libra confounds Mars with unfamiliar indecision.
Mystic Rectangle
From the 10th to the 14th, Easterners, especially in DC, may find some aspect of their consciousness that had been shamed into hiding, or buried in denial, re-awakened into greater self-awareness, thanks to the 4-day Mystic Rectangle between Saturn, the Nodes and the Eastern States’ early Leo Midheaven. This suggests a public REVEAL for those who have crossed “the karmic line”, especially in political DC, with consequences due for misdeeds, while bringing consciousness breakthroughs for persons solidly on their path. Clarity may arise as Venus squares Saturn on the 17th while the Virgo Sun trines Pluto, still in Capricorn, grounding us with new transformational energies amid the disruptive, but largely positive, changes brought on by the Sun trine Uranus. Together these 2 trines may help prepare us for whatever may come as CHANGE seems to be the name of the game going forward.
Full Moon
The 20th of September brings an upbeat “Harvest” Full Moon as crops are picked and farmers celebrate the year’s bounty (or bemoan the lack thereof). For most of us it should be an active, responsible, and productive lunation when things go pretty much your way and spirits run high, despite the square from Mercury to Pluto, which can lead to compulsive thoughts and obsessions, if not kept in check. The positive side of this aspect could bring penetrating psychological perceptions to help you discern what is and is not working in your life. Meanwhile, the two pesky planets of Mars and Saturn are working harmonious together at the Full Moon, trining the Nodes of Destiny, which should facilitate progress.
Fall Equinox
Summer is over and Fall becomes official at the Autumnal Libra Equinox on September 22nd as we face dropping temperatures in the North. Hopefully you found some fun this sweltering and fiery summer, but now things get really serious as Mercury tightens its square to Pluto, raising dark thoughts mixed with increased anxiety. By the 26th fast-moving Mars quincunxes Saturn with perplexing conundrums, while Mercury slows to station on the 27th before turning retrograde, a time when machines often malfunction, communications become unclear, and the mind tends to skip a beat.
But on the 29th Venus trines Neptune and the Moon in a lovely Grand Trine for a day of romantic dreams and inspired visions. Mercury also trines Jupiter so HOPE runs high as we exit September with an additional Grand Trine between the Libra Sun conjunct Mars, trine Saturn in Aquarius, and the Gemini North Node. Onward we go from a generally upbeat September into a productive October.
