There are decades, such as this one, that change everything! In 2020 we are experiencing a dramatic energetic SHIFT in culture and consciousness that will eventually remake our world, our mental state, our beliefs, and our values. COVID has forced us to clarify such concepts during periods of relative isolation by focusing us inward, where our beliefs lie hidden, waiting to be triggered in pre-determined ways. As we become more self-aware, such beliefs can be restructured, once we unplug from those beliefswe learned as children.
As a civilization, we are at a crucial turning point socially, governmentally, ecologically, and spiritually. The decisions we are formulating now will propel us into our shared futures. Depending on how we value ourselves, our loved ones, our jobs, our dreams, and how we implement our strategies, will determine the outcomes and the quality of life to come. Be CONSCIOUS of the choices you make as you seed your future at this pivotal time!
Timing Rhythms
The summer months each began with a Full Moon. Now the months are starting with a fullish waning Moon, the energy unwinding into a relatively quiet phase mid-month before waxing into the next Full Moon with a crescendo of energy around the end the month. Thus, each month is wrapping up the affairs of the previous month. This means that important events are best accomplished while energies are HIGH, under a waxing Moon late in the month while quiet times, intimacy, and spa dates are best scheduled mid-month under a dark moon, generally speaking.
New Moon
The critical aspects of the New Moon on Dec 14th (in the USA) are the continuing Nodes square Neptune (until March) which represents a rather uncertain and confusing time, much of it COVID-related. The second harsh aspect is Mars square Pluto, which can bring conflict, arguments, protests, fights, tremors, and rumors of war. Keep an eye on Iran. Then there is an inconjunct between the Sun and Uranus, which should spark more change (yes we are still in transition) or unfortunate actions may be taken to deleterious effect.
The positive aspects are each tempered – a very socially-pleasant Venus sextile Jupiter exactly, as well as Saturn, 1 degree away on the final degree of Capricorn, a testing degree which may bring some delays, limitations or slight blockage around relationships. The even stronger Mars trine Mercury (exact but short-lived) may raise the volume on verbal arguments, or it could stimulate the mind to think faster.
Eclipse Season
We have the normal 2-eclipse this season, November 30th being the Lunar (Full Moon) Eclipse, followed by a New Moon Solar Eclipse on December 14th, visible ONLY in South America from mid-Brazil southward. In the US we will have a penumbral lunar eclipse where there appears only to be a slight darkening of the full moon as seen in this image below.
Bernadette Brady in her Predictive Astrology: The Eagle and The Lark tells us this “4 South” Saros Cycle eclipse carries strong feelings concerning relationships and money, lust and anger. There is a fated feeling for individuals frustrated by an out-of-control relationship. However, many are blocked from leaving the relationship in some way. Brady’s advice for December: “Avoid rash decisions until things settle down.”
Be aware that eclipses are like “wild cards” that can trigger profound psychological effects, especially when aspecting significant points in one’s natal chart. Eclipses often mark a time of accelerated change and upheaval, and they often announce big events in one’s personal life. Lunar eclipses tend to impact women emotionally, while solar eclipses may “eclipse” an important male figure out of your life. After a solar (New Moon) eclipse (such as on December 14th), something ends and something new begins. With a lunar eclipse, an issue or a person is exposed, an insight is received, or something comes to completion. During the anxious 2 weeks between the eclipses, a change of direction is often initiated, a turning point is reached, and there’s no turning back… only forward toward new opportunities.

Enter Aquarius
On November 3rd, Election Day, the US National chart’s progressed Moon hit ZERO degrees Aquarius. A progressed Moon changes sign every 2 1/2 years and when it does, it reflects a change of mood, focus or feeling – in this case, among the American People. The masses have grown tired of governmental hierarchies (Capricorn) altering rules to benefit one political party, corporation, or privileged person while denying those same advantages to others. Civil, judicial, racial, economic, corporate, and governmental injustice is rampant, especially against minorities and women. This must begin to be corrected in 2021!
A new President with more humane policies, more truth, and a gentler disposition marks this change toward more hopeful manifestations as we emerge next year from this COVID nightmare. This Aquarian progressed Moon will carry us all the way through 2021, 2022 and into 2023 and it should indicate a more thoughtful and measured US presidency as our nation tries to re-establish its place of leadership in the world, where diplomacy under Trump has been shattered and our alliances abused. The damage done will be hard to repair.
Grand Conjunction
The biggest astro event of the month occurs on the Solstice (Dec. 21st) when Jupiter joins Saturn at zero degrees Aquarius – forming a “Grand Conjunction”, a significant astrological event that occurs every 20 years, as these planetary “Time Keepers” strike the evolutionary clock with a new dose of forward-thrusting energy. Saturn rules Aquarius in this Grand Conjunction, moderating Jupiter’s expansiveness, but also activating near-by Pluto for added intensity. It is also happening during Jupiter conjunct Saturn’s closest pass to the Earth in 400 years, so it will be felt as a powerful agent for manifestation throughout 2021. Jupiter envisions while Saturn plans and executes. Together they manifest many changes during this new 20-year cycle.
Grand Conjunctions have shifted from occurring in Earth signs (Capricorn, Taurus, and Virgo) to Air signs (Aquarius, Gemini and Libra) over the next ~200 years. The shift of element from solid, slow Earth to ephemeral, light Air is so significant that this, the first Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in a new element, is called a Grand Mutation, which signals an epochal social transformation for humanity! A Grand Conjunction in Aquarius means we are moving towards a more just, humanitarian, intellectual, innovative, and technological future during which groups and intentional communities will proliferate, and many will thrive. Eco-solutions will be found and services will be expanded to assist the common man, but it will take time and effort to remake our world anew, so be patient and caring and love one another through it all, because we are in this TOGETHER!
