Overview
Last month’s Astrology featured plenty of fire energy – Venus in Leo with Chiron and Mars in Aries, as we watched the West enveloped in flames. Tensions were compounded by several Cardinal squares (squares are always activating). Mercury-in-Libra squared Jupiter-in-Capricorn mid-September, bringing up thoughts about potential futures in these uncertain times.
The death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, champion of women’s rights, and her vacancy on the Supreme Court, under the shadow of Venus-square-Mars, brought discord as rogue retrograde-Mars squares Saturn and Pluto, igniting dissension while facing obstacles, irritations, accidents and general distress. As September melts away, this latter double whammy of squares continues into October. This, the final month before the election, will be a doozey, no doubt! As Ben Davidson of Space Weather would say, “Eyes Open, No Fear!”
The good news is that the entire Karmic Capricorn Cluster is now finally moving forward, albeit slowly. Momentum will build as the tangled bonds that have held us in check for 6 months begin to loosen. However, major impediments still remain – the Mars/Saturn/Pluto square will continue to hamper forward movement for most of October.
However, Jupiter broke free and turned direct in mid-September, which could ease pressure a bit, once its forward reboot gains some speed. Next, Saturn turned direct on September 29th, its focus now on slowing down procedures to ordain a Supreme Court Justice amid the throes of an election already begun with mail-in ballots and long lines for early voting.

From August through November, Pluto has been sitting on 22 degrees of Capricorn, the same degree as the infamous Saturn/Pluto conjunction of January 2020 that, along with a set of eclipses, gave us fair warning to expect extreme and dire circumstances in the year ahead. Saturn and Pluto remain in conjunction, although Saturn is pulling away.
The January event signaled that upheaval was indeed coming, leading to major change, beneficial eventually, but painful at first. This fall as Pluto revisits it’s own critical Capricorn degree (22 degrees), where the January 2020 Saturn/Pluto Conjunction occurred, suggests “consequences” are due, so, it is time to settle all accounts! Let’s go “back to the beginning”, so to speak, and start over again. And let’s get it right this time with the COVID pandemic.
Full Moon Oct 1st
The Capricorn stellium of Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn is annoyed by a pesky Mars that keeps interjecting defamatory accusations and making “impossible demands”, amid conspiracy theories and more protests in early October, further inflaming tensions. Slow-moving Mercury-in-Scorpio opposes Uranus in values-oriented Taurus, evoking more unexpected and scandalous secrets to be revealed this month.
The Full Aries Moon conjoins Chiron, suggesting that we are bravely managing our lives, despite the emotional toll, as we search for a silver lining. There’s also an uncomfortable quincunx between the Sun and Uranus (how we perceive change) on October 3rd that emphasizes the difficulties we are having adjusting to new realities. After a rough September, Venus feels more confident dealing with Mars during the first days of October, so relationship discussions become more fruitful and women can stand up for themselves against oppression and inequality.
Mercury Rx – Oct. 13th
Mercury stations retrograde on October 13th until November 3rd, Election Day, when Mercury stands still ALL day! This is highly problematic making a quick electoral conclusion unlikely. Instead, expect contention, lack of clarity, recounts, court cases, illegal actions, potential violence, dirty tricks, and delayed results. The last time Mercury stationed on Election Day was the 2000 Bush-Gore debacle which remained unresolved into mid-December. Expect a similar mess, only potentially more violent. with Sun opposed Uranus rocking the Homeland!
Neptune
Mercury sesqui-square Neptune at the beginning and end of the month strives to make sense out of the illusions, delusions, conspiracy theories, and “fake news” that political chaos has wrought as we anxiously approach the November elections in the USA. Neptune squares the Nodes for months, perfecting in January 2021 and extending into mid-2022. It may take that long, yes years, to recover from COVID, a bungled election, and even longer from “the Trump era”, IF indeed he is ousted, or removed if he tries to stage a coup.
Several Vedic astrologers predict that Trump’s term will end with this election while Western astrologers seem less sure. Biden’s pick of Kamala Harris for VP is energizing his campaign. The Aquarian “Robin Hood” humanitarian energies coming in January are more Democratic in principle than Republican… but Trump has an exceedingly “lucky” and “attention-grabbing” chart, while Biden’s chart reveals sorrow, empathy and humility.
Respected Astrologer Jessica Adams believes mid-October will bring the undoing of Trump’s reputation, already quite scarred. She says that when Jupiter is in the same sign as Pluto (both are in Capricorn), attempts at “abuse of power” will eventually fail and systems will change.
New Moon on Oct. 16th
The New Moon in Libra on Oct 16th features Sun/Moon opposite Mars Rx (disruptive and restless ego energies), T-squaring the Capricorn Stellium for most of the month, bringing more struggles and hardship.
Many believe the continuing Pluto/Saturn alignment symbolizes the botched pandemic. It certainly represents dismembering and restructuring of governmental, financial, and corporate culture, unfolding over this decade. This tense triple-pronged T-square (power struggles, restrictions and letting go of old patterns that no longer work), plus Mercury-opposed-Uranus (nerve-wracking disbelief, confusion and scattered thoughts that can lead to careless accidents) and Venus-opposed-Neptune (unrealistic expectations in relationships that promote disappointment, and sometimes betrayal) make for another tough month.
The better aspects of this lunation are: Sun/Moon well-aspected to the Nodes (action facilitates necessary change), Jupiter sextiles Neptune (uplifting visions for a just and peaceful future and how we can get there), and Venus trines Jupiter (grace and ease in social situations, but be sure to resist self-indulgence and laziness).
Blue Moon on Halloween
On Halloween Day, Oct 31st, there is a Taurus Blue Moon (the rare second Full Moon in any given month). Although this chart has almost all harsh (red) aspects, resolution is possible through just and fair communications (Mercury in Libra trine North Node in Gemini). This Halloween will be different, thanks to COVID.
The Full Moon will be exactly conjunct Uranus, indicating irrational and erratic emotional tendencies. Lovely Venus-in-Libra high in the chart will oppose wounded Chiron in Aries on the IC, (in secret in the dark cellar) which could signify sexual misconduct or domestic abuse in the news, especially with rogue Mars in the 4th house of the home. Retrograde Mars is largely unaspected (angles and lesser aspects don’t count), which increases its hyped-up ego and disregard for others, and thus, tends toward “rogue” behaviors.
There are a couple more difficult months ahead to deal with, so hang in there, and continue to work on yourself and your plans. The astrological headlines are generally positive. “Expect a noticeable shift in the energies by the spring of 2021”. So take care of yourself and believe in your future!
